About The Artwork

Abstract acrylic, mixed media and gesso, on gallery wrapped canvas with back brace, all sides painted, no staples, ready for display. Mud, mud, and more mud! There was a time when mud may have been a bad thing, maybe it still is. What I do know is that mixing paint spontaneously on canvas makes me very happy in an uninhibited way! With this work please find a restricted color palette, and an overworked archival support, layered with thick non-archival material. This desicated color gives way to a clunky composition which is deconstructed purposefully. Moreover I find myself painting in uncomfortable and inconvenient postures lately, using everything other than a paint brush to paint with. I have fastened together paint stirs and cardboard to make a non-symmetric painting utensil for unusual mark making. This work is encrusted and overworked, while some areas remain transparent and watercolorish. Total incongruity in a non-contrived format. This work is about being out of place and not fitting in. The piece however, can mean whatever you wish. Even the title is weirdly out of place, as there is nothing fleshtone present.

I am an American abstract painter. Every so often I veer into expressionist figuration. As an outsider I studied the fundamentals of art, the great artists, and the influential art movements throughout history, on my own. One of my goals is to always remain outside the norm. I am heavily influenced by the Abstract Expressionists from The New York School. Inspiration also comes to me from the works of Claude Monet, Joan Mitchell and Lee Krasner as well. The outsider ideal connects with me thanks to artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Jean Michel-Basquiat. Non-comformity defines what art should be. My mission is to create engaging and innovative artworks. I hope to extend an appreciation of artistic expression to a wide audience. The painting process I employ involves acrylic and mixed media. As I paint, color and material are combined on the canvas, and I love to merge drawing with painting. Many of my original paintings are found in collections across North America, Europe, and Asia. A Certificate of Authenticity ships with each painting, along with background information about the making of the piece. All the work you see is available. Thank you for looking.
