Many of Eva Kunzes paintings seem to be inspired by the Renaissance, an era in which portraiture developed into the most important art form of the time. But her inspiration is generated from trends set in the current media world and fashion magazines. She uses analogously created images, either her own or from other sources, in original or printed form, and processes these further, digitally or with brush and paint.
These motifs are then subjected to numerous modifications, the artist reducing them and subsequently enshrouding them with impasto brush strokes.

About The Artwork

Reflections on contemporary identity. The inspiration for my self-contained series is generated from magazines – where the woman is most often the centre of attraction. In my preceding series IDENTITY, the game with social roles is the central point. Here the fashion style of a figure is evident. They cover and expose themselves in an attempt to break away from all steriotypical expectations. Identity as performance, carried out with self-confidence in order to create and establish new impressions of themselves.

From a young age, Eva Kunze fostered a captivating connection with art, and soon her works caught the attention of her teachers. At just 23 years old, she graduated with honors in Communication Design in Munich and established a studio in the heart of the city. In 1990, she made her debut in renowned galleries including the Rathaus Gallery Munich and the Lothringer 13 Art Hall. Since 2016, she has lived and worked in Freienried, an idyllic village between Munich and Augsburg. Kunze's unique style is vividly evident in the passion and vitality that permeate each of her works. Her expressive creations effortlessly navigate the realms of abstraction and figuration. Particularly remarkable is her ability to convey emotions through elegant simplicity. Her works are crafted in a serialized manner, consistently focused on contemporary themes she observes and captures in society. Simultaneously working on multiple canvases allows her to weave internal and external sensations, creating a more intuitive artistic process.
