VIEW IN MY ROOM
Painting: Acrylic, Spray Paint, Graphite on Canvas.
I live in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, which includes 25% of the wetlands of the entire East Coast, both fresh and salt marshes. The light here is as magical and ethereal as it is in Venice because water is everywhere and it bounces off everything. During the golden hours before sunset, the Lowcountry light is enough to convince me of God. And it feels that good. The crepuscular rays are like spotlights, on individual islets, or a single bird. There are a few of them in this piece. You may not see the ray itself, but a circle of gold on an area of grass, in an otherwise shaded hammock of sable palms.
That is part of what I seek to share about my world in my work -- that sometimes a single ray of light is all we need. A lush landscape with God's spotlights will always make the moment right. You'll keep going and feel a little better without even knowing why.
