in this work the pelvis is the site of primary interest and media is chosen to articulate subjects such as loss of control, intervention, fragility and lack of care. My painting and sculptural process allows for intimate studies of the marks left by its creation in an attempt to underscore institutional interference within the female body. My work addresses a number of issues in relation to the political and social concerns around issues of bodily agency and the role of institutional control and regulation of the female body. The work has been further informed by research into Symphysiotomy procedures in Ireland during the period of 1944-1984. In my work I intend to; through a re materialisation of these events and images synthesizes the notion of a shared historical and social memory with how the body remembers these events of trauma and pain.

Ireland
Originally from Dublin and now based in West Cork, I completed an undergraduate degree in Visual Art with DIT, (Sherkin island) in 2016 achieving first class honours in both artistic practice and critical theory. In December 2017 I completed a Masters in Fine art and Process in Crawford College of Art and Design. Painting is the principal language of my practice. During the process of painting the close observation of the subject becomes a meditative exercise which in turn generates relationships and associations with sculptural pieces. In my current work, the pelvis is the site of primary interest and media is chosen to articulate subjects such as loss of control, intervention, fragility and lack of care.
