This painting is a reworking of a previous painting of writing in paint, which was exhibited in Germany a few years ago. It has now had new layers added, working intuitively with the texture of the canvas and the marks from before. The paint is carefully drawn onto the raw canvas in saturated red and cerulean blue, surrounding the burnt sienna and interfering with the rhythmic nature of writing. While painting I work between standing and sitting an work with music on and a cat purring for attention. Balancing painting with immediate concerns is a delicate arrangement. A feeling of connection to self and the wider world is something I’d like to be received. Canvas allows flexing on the stretcher, I also sometimes work with canvas on the floor for a more intense painting experience. Layers of paint and the history possibly captured between the layers is something that I’m fascinated by.
