About The Artwork

War was a behavior for humans to reconstruct and revolutionize for their idealized world. After WWII, we as the Generation of Hope living in a social phenomenon full of harmony, hope, pleasure, and desire. The Generation of Hope series depict the post-utopian world created by humans, and each subject was referenced classic Western paintings to indicate the influences under the European hegemony. People seem to be living under a war-less wonderland, however, the truth is covered with hypocritical lies. The paintings ironically disregard the reality of corruption and erosion with hedonism.

I had been an international student for ten years. The way of living as an international student was different from immigration, therefore, except the national identity given by my passport, living under different cultures reshape the definition of myself: the citizen of the world/ cosmopolitan. In my practices, cosmopolitanism- means to have equal value of all human kinds and cultures globally and locally. Meskimmon (2011) motioned that the notion of citizenship in global level should be considered as the citizen of the world and share equal rights and identity. Living in the contemporary globalized world, cultures in various countries were hybrid among various. My identity is no longer only in single culture, but a new diverse hybrid one. My paintings emphasize how I perceive the world differently as a result traveling horizontally in time and space such as floating in the Third Sapce that Homi Bhabha (1990) mentioned. Intrigued by my floating identity in this theoretical space created in between locations, which blur my social, cultural, and political boundaries. Within these ten years, my work highlights the personal aspects of the new hybrid identity and memory that allows me to speak in the ‘third’ language.
