About The Artwork

I grew up on a wilderness dairy farm and love cows. I studied art and architecture and was teaching the use of oil pastels and had the students fill a page with gesture lines using the oil pastels. Years later I was preparing my first solo show when looking at those gesture lines, I painted around it in oil and wax to reveal this geometric, three quarter rotated blue cow. Sold in the collection of Heather and a Patrick Murphy.

Washington, USA. 1964. Claremont Graduate University, MFA; Painting & Sculpture, Claremont, Ca., Washington State University, BFA; Art and Architecture Kerwin lives and works in Los Angeles. Her work resides in the spontaneously perceptive areas of proportion and measurements found in a lineage including Reinhardt, McGlaughlin, Agnes Martin and her own. Kerwin’s geometric abstraction, with an emphasis on color harmonies and balance, takes a new beat with each exhibition. Kerwin uses a variety of media to achieve her goals for each painting, which include: oil, oil in high melt waxes, and acrylic. These paintings have been called by critics in L.A. "sexy", "passionate", and "surfaces to dream on". Her work has been in over 110 exhibitions and is collected internationally. *Occasionally, while making her geometric abstractions, cows may leap out, and some are pictured here. Kerwin’s early years were spent on an expansive, wilderness cattle ranch in the Olympic mountains of Washington state, USA.
