About The Artwork
The painting was inspired by a fashion image from a magazine. I wanted to create a feeling of beauty in the painting. I used serene and contrasting colours to emphasise the calm presence of the figure in the image. I allowed the paint to run and drip to create a feeling of being in a dream where memory has become fragmented. There was a sadness to the figure in the image, and a vulnerability that I admired. Through painting the figure I was able to liberate her presence and release the emotions I was feeling at the time.

Originally from Birmingham, Anders moved to London to study BA(hons) Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, London School of Art. She now works in her studio in Birmingham, painting her own figurative paintings. Anders work communicates the intensity of the painted figure through pose, gesture and expression. She mixes traditional oil techniques with modern styles, to create contemporary figurative images. The different textures and layers of paint act to heighten the figurative gesture in each piece.
