‘River of Forgotten Sorrows’ 18x36”, mixed media assemblage (above), is a unique collaborative piece created by found object artist Lynn Dodge and artist Karen Haub. This artwork is a tribute to the people of the parishes along the Mississippi River, in the corridor between New Orlean’s and Baton Rouge, Louisianna known as Cancer Alley. Over 100 petrochemical plants and refineries in this area have been spewing petrochemical distillates into the air and water since the early 1980’s. Many of the people in these parishes are dying of cancer and are too poor to move. Environmental Justice for these people is needed now... there are no plans in place to help the people in the affected parishes by closing down plants or at least regulating more than one chemical at a time. Plans have been made to build more plants in the next few years. Donations can be made to Resilience.org, and Earthjustice.org to help fight for Environmental Justice for all.

Karen Haub is a Southern California based mixed media artist drawn to intuitive landscapes and figures. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and has shown her work in numerous galleries in Southern California. Karen has sold work throughout the U.S. and internationally since 2014. Karen interprets her landscapes and figures through a variety of materials including oil, charcoal, and cold wax. The brushwork, mark making, and dripping techniques she uses in her intuitive landscapes, figures, and seascapes, suggest the passage of time, and her plein air works are a tribute to the enduring, ethereal essence of natural landscapes untouched by industrialization and urban sprawl. The collaborative work that she does with found object artist, Lynn Dodge is focused on bringing awareness to viewers about the destruction of the environment and environmental issues we all face as inhabitants of a dying planet. The earthy, textural elements of each painting combined with the upcycled, found object elements, bring a keen awareness to the viewer that our planet is covered with discarded objects that pollute our environment both in the manufacturing and in the disposal of them.
