About The Artwork

I have not done this before ie. listed anything other than artwork, but I realized a few weeks ago how much collectors and colleagues may need to see how I work and a glimpse into what my new studio looks like. This studio is a little bit smaller than what I am used to working in. It means I have become inventive with how I use the space to get the most out of it including coming up with light-weight hanging board system where I can rotate as many drawings as I want in a single area. When I was a young art student one of my paintings classes watched a video of de Kooning in his studio. I never forgot how he had different working stations and yet the work all tied together. This is a similar goal I have for myself so that regardless of the medium I am working in - the work all begins to relate. And (yes, I started a sentence with and) because I am Sara C and not de Kooning - I am planning on creating an area just for experiments. These experiments are extremely important to me because not only is an inherent part of my development process it's an aspect of my personality that keeps my mind growing and nurtures a somewhat insatiable curiosity to want to see something manifest right before me. I once had a beloved professor poke his head in my studio to see what I was doing and exclaimed "Why the F*** are you doing that?! You know that's not going to work." I continued hot gluing puzzle pieces to a large canvas and said, "Maybe. Maybe not. I need to find out for myself." + + + © Richardson All images and rights reserved. sara richardson artist

"My work explores the delicate balance and connection found between nature and what it means to be human. To seek and celebrate endless reverence...reflect homage, love and hopefulness. However, you can not have a complete understanding of joy without sadness; happiness without sorrow or beauty without roughness. There's always this tiny sprinkle or thread of contrasting emotions in my work to bring the expression into the foreground...this is what makes the artworks move, appear poetic and feel authentic.
