About The Artwork
This painting is what i would describe as a painting of content, that is to say that it is not a painting that is purely decorative but seeks to convey something more than it represents and uses image as metaphor .This is part of a series of paintings that were inspired by the film the Swimmer , that starred Burt Lancaster and the short story, The Aleph by Jorge Luis Borges.Unlike the crystal clear pools painted by Hockney this is the dark and mysterious water of a man made quarry pool that reflects the beautiful nature arround it across its surface.The swimmer moves through the beguilling water of unknown depth.This particular quarry pool is in Cornwall and is part of an old gunpowder factory.The stone excuvated from here was used in the building of the Embankment in London.
