Tom Glendenning's practice is underpinned by contrasts of colour, texture and mark making. It questions the viewer's perspective, offering reference to both aerial and landscape compositions. Working on canvas with mixed media means his practice is constantly evolving and exploring the different qualities of both conventional media and found objects. Similarly, the inspiration for each work also varies, bringing to mind natural destruction and architectural decay, but also change, adaptation and hope. 'I want to celebrate the free, rebellious side of nature: the moss and ferns growing in a gutter that one day seem to be flourishing and then dying the next, the little things that change, the fragility of life.' 

Heavily influenced by Willem De Kooning's large oil paintings, this piece adds structure to a somewhat random yet organic application of impasto oil paint. The contrast of form and texture with the contrast of spray paint and oil reminds the viewer of the differences between nature and man and our desire to control our environment.
