ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This image was made 38 years ago, when the artist was young, walking the streets of Manhattan, responding to the constant flow of subjects and imagery. Today, at 68, he is in good health and going strong. This composition was created just off Broadway, in the morning, not far from where Steven Colbert tapes his show today, A high quality Rolleiflex medium format film camera and Kodak Ektachrome color transparency film were used. The film was processed by the artist, which is important, since he was one of the first fine art color photographers and exhibiting at the Alonzo Gallery on W57th St. The picture was then filed away for decades. However, the transparency was in pristine condition. Then, in 2009, it was rediscovered by Mr. Martin, scanned, adjusted for color, and dust removed by him. Feeling it conveyed much more as a night image, he digitally converted it, a technology unavailable at the time of original creation. The limited edition print is one of 5 plus two artist's proofs to ensure value to the collector. The print is a new pigment print printed on 22"X17" Epson Exhibition Fiber fine art paper with a K2 inkset, which has vastly improved stability over the previous dyes in color prints of 1979. The image itself measures 15" X 15". There is a 1" border on the left and right and a 3.5" border on the top and bottom. It is titled and numbered on the lower left and signed and dated on the lower right, in archival pen. It comes with a signed certificate of authenticity with the artist's thumbprint. The print too has the artist's thumb print on the obverse.

BLACK FRIDAY SALE ON MY WEBSITE Mr. Martin is a citizen of the USA, having been born in upstate New York State and spending his youth in the small rural village of Clinton. Because of this exposure, and frequent trips to their summering spot in the Adirondack Mountains, nature became a part of him. Naturally, it would become expressed though his art, which was inspired by his father, a part time professional photographer and amateur watercolor painter. When he was young, professional cameras were ever present, as well as a fully equipped darkroom. There was a mystique about photography, and "that place", that he wanted to know, so he convinced his father to teach him. Thus began a life long career as a fine art photographer. Later, he went on to study fine art photography at college, and earn an MFA in photography so as to be able to teach photography on the college level, have time to produce his work, and earn a living from what he loved. He was a fine art photography teacher for over thirty years, and is now retired, having done so in 2008, to concentrate full time on his work. Over the years, Mr. Martin has won numerous awards and feature articles have been published about him in national and international publications. Recently, his pictures have been featured in the UK, Australia, and the USA. His flora images of hosta plants have won first place awards in the Prix de la Photographie, Paris, the International Photography Awards (The Lucies), and the International Garden Photographer of the Year.
