About The Artwork

Days in Athens is a series of 14 photographs taken while wandering through Athens in the spring of 2023. The photos capture the diverse shapes, contours, and light the ancient and vibrant city exemplifies. The photos were taken using a Leica IIIc camera from 1959. They were taken on Ricoh Retro film. The pictures are 36x24 cm, made on 57x42.5 cm Saunders Waterford Hot Press 300g watercolour paper. These are cyanotypes toned with white Aleppo oak galls. Original: Fujifilm GFX100s m./w. GF 110mm f/2 linsu, 100ASA, 1/30, f/2. The cyanotype process is an artisanal alternative photographic technique, originally from 1842, famously used by the pictorialist photographers around. 1900. More than one print may be made based on the same image. Due to the organic nature of the process, each version is unique.
