About The Artwork

This is an open edition. The original show is a 32"x40" print. It is window matted and framed. The window mat is white and approximately 2.5" in each direction. The wooden frame is black. It has museum quality non-glare glass. This image is from a series called "Passages From the Kite Chronicles". I approach my work as performance photography. The kites are handmade to look old, worn, and like skin. The characters are usually caught up in some sort of precarious situation. As a viewer, you are forced to debate whether or not the kite can fly in these circumstances. You can view my full artist statement at: http://micajahart.com/passages-from-the-kite-chronicles/

Micajah Truitt currently lives, teaches, and plays in San Diego, California. He is a Professor of Photography & Digital Imaging at Southwestern College in Chula Vista, California. He is a strong believer in education and values how art can teach a person to think critically, and to develop a person to work hard and pursue his or her individual dreams. Micajah is a born and raised Texan who had to leave due to the fact that he loves mountains and the West. He has embarked on several paths in life before becoming a professor including teaching outdoor living skills to teenagers, working for the National Park Service, and working as a freelance photographer. When Micajah can get away from art and teaching, he is also a climber, a canyoneer, a skier, a caver, and a mountaineer. Also, he is a member of the San Bernardino County Cave Rescue Team. His second life is Search & Rescue. Micajah has a strong desire for adventure that influences his life and many of the concepts behind his artwork. Micajah believes that fantasies come true and that the impossible is possible. Micajah says, “I would like to go back to that time as a child when a log in the park became a sailboat on a vast ocean of grass.”
