About The Artwork

This image is from the series of flower portraits I have made called Plantae Secreto. I've used a type of light called a Beauty Box that is normally reserved for Glamour/Portraiture work because of the soft nature of it's luminescence. I was given some Tulips as a gift from my friend Veronique who was a florist in Paris before she moved to the UK. She mentioned that Tulips are often more interesting to look at closely when they are past their best, rather than when fresh. After the Tulips I've photographed many other flowers, some from my garden, some bought and some given. This image is of an Allium. I loved the way the flower head resembled an exploding firework. The original vibrancy of the flower head had been lost but replaced by a magnificent dynamic form. The Image size is 79cm x 79cm, printed on Innova Smooth Cotton High White Matte 315gsm paper using Ultrachrome HDR archival inks. Paper is 84.1cm x 84.1cm. Signed, Numbered and dated on verso. Certificate of Authenticity included.

Born in 1955 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and could not wait to get away. Spent time after finishing an ignominious school career in Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan Pakistan, India and Nepal. Then studied Photography at Sheffield Poly, starting in 1979. Did Teacher Training and taught for 1 year at a school in North London which was more than enough. Subsequently worked for Warner Brothers in a non photographic capacity and the BBC both Teaching and Photographing. I have recently returned to working with traditional, wet processes alongside digital. The images in my portfolio start in the 70's and go through to the present day. www.ianhoskin.co.uk
