About The Artwork

In this captivating photograph, the timeless beauty of the statue of Aphrodite takes center stage within an imaginary art museum. The graceful form of the goddess of love and beauty radiates an ethereal aura, commanding attention amidst a rich tapestry of art displayed on the walls and floor. Surrounding Aphrodite, a diverse array of artworks, from paintings to sculptures, create a symphony of artistic expression, each piece contributing to the visual dialogue within the museum. The interplay of light and shadow accentuates the contours of the sculptures and the textures of the paintings, infusing the scene with a sense of depth and dynamism. This composition invites contemplation of the enduring power of artistic creation, as the museum becomes a sanctuary for the celebration of human creativity and the exploration of beauty in its myriad forms.

I have been a photographer for four decades in New York and currently reside in Brooklyn. My body of work is titled Misbegotten Places, which involves creating small dioramas from photographs I have taken. Through careful camera angles and lighting, these dioramas are transformed into lifelike images that can often deceive the viewer, while always conveying a sense of "misbegotten." The lines between reality and fiction are blurred, as these lifelike dioramas, when photographed, often deceive the viewer with their uncanny realism. However, true to the collection's title, "Misbegotten Places," each scene is infused with a subtle element of the unexpected or the out-of-place, challenging the viewer's perception and inviting them to delve deeper into the narratives woven within these meticulously crafted compositions.
