Black Sand Beach Reynisfjara, Mýrdalshreppur, Iceland It is located in the middle of the South Coast, adjacent to Vík í Mýrdal, 180km from Reykjavík. Black sand was formed during one of Katla’s major eruptions. As it is in the rainiest part of Iceland, the sand is always wet and stays pitch black.
