The red lipstick, a sign of femininity and allure, stands in stark contrast to the black liquid, which could be interpreted as a metaphor for the unknown and the end. The high-key photography lends the whole an almost ethereal quality, reminiscent of the light-infused works of the High Renaissance. From an art historical perspective, one might draw parallels to the Vanitas still lifes of the Baroque era, which explore the transience of life.
