Free art, video, photography - what does your heart beat for? asked Joseph Beuys after a tour of the ateliers at the Art Academy Düsseldorf: Photography! So Raimund Feiter studied with Prof. Arno Jansen at the Fachhochschule in Cologne. After graduation, he worked among other things as a photojournalist for a German newspaper. While Raimund initially worked with analog black and white photography, he now uses digital means to explore new opportunities. As image carrier he uses solely the classic handmade paper. The different surface structures - from fine to coarse – allow Raimund to determine the atmospheric character of the image. Like for the image carrier he does not compromise on the print. He selects the traditional pigment printing as this guarantees a consistent color quality and a long lasting brilliance. Raimund’s world of pictures reflects exactly what Henri Cartier-Bresson once said: taking photos means aligning the head, the eye and the heart in the same line of vision. It is a way of life. For Raimund Feiter photography as an art is photography that connects the eye, the mind and the heart. That challenges itself, showing what others would otherwise not see, capturing the eye of the viewer and appeal to her or his feelings. He wants to go beyond the purely visual in order to explore the creative potential of natural structures in his work. Tiny tree pieces scattered on white snow in the work Winter 3-c for example is a minimalistic and silent composition. Raimund takes the liberty to go back and forth between the poles of objectivity and abstraction, indeed to dissolve boundaries between them, so that many of his pictures remain vague in their presentation for the viewer. To him it is not about presenting a realistic picture, but about giving the pictures an aesthetic quality and suggestive power. His works shown revolve around more than we can see with the eye. They want to capture what the inner eye sees: not the shapes and colors, but the essence of nature; its superior and sublime power, its sparseness on the one hand, but also its immensity, abundance and wealth on the other hand. The viewer is given space to form her or his own associations and interpretations and to give the image her or his own meaning. Raimund Feiter sees photography as an attempt to comprehend and infuse the world in its richness, density and meaning. Dr. Marion von Schabrowsky
