About The Artwork
I grew up on cowboys and when the cowboy poets had a gathering that produced a book in the 1980s. From that book I found and photographed some of them. It was an exciting time to meet the last of the cowboys. This vintage portrait of Waddie Mitchel is printed as a cibachrome from the original film negative. The photo was taken in Lee-Jiggs Nevada with the Ruby Mountains in the background. Maddie is sitting on a chair he made from horse shoes. The furry chaps he wears are for warmth in the Nevada winter.
