About The Artwork

How I Apply Cyanotype Technique: I create my own negatives from digital files and use them to make duoprints. To produce the prints, I apply a photosensitive solution of ammonium iron(III) citrate and potassium ferricyanide to aquarelpapier (watercolor paper) . The coated surface is then exposed to sunlight or UV light, which triggers the chemical reaction and turns the print into a striking blue color. Each print is a one-of-a-kind piece of art, as I experiment with various exposure times and intensities of light. Embracing the unpredictability of the process, I allow for charming irregularities, such as specks of dust and brushstrokes, which contribute to the unique character of each cyanotype print. The tactile nature of the technique and the human touch involved add an authentic and nostalgic quality to the final artwork, making cyanotype prints on aquarelpapier a captivating and timeless medium for my artistic expression. Cyanotype is a photographic printing process invented by Sir John Herschel in the 19th century. It involves mixing photosensitive chemicals and applying them to a surface. When exposed to UV light, the coated surface undergoes a chemical reaction, resulting in distinctive blue prints known as cyanotypes. The process gained popularity as an artistic medium due to its dreamy and ethereal aesthetic. One of its unique characteristics is its unpredictability, with each print being different and displaying charming imperfections, adding to its allure and authenticity.
