Magic! It really was nothing short of magic to be gifted with this scene of at least 30 deer; of all ages, genders and sizes, during a walk through the New Forest, England. We knew that there was wildlife all around us, especially the wild ponies that the forest is known for but had no idea that we would happen upon a family of deer so close to our wanderings. My nose smelled them before my eyes caught sight of them, as they so wonderfully blended into their surroundings. We stood and watched them for quite a while without them knowing we were there, until a couple of people appeared from nowhere, making a noise and attempting to get as close as possible. Until then, I had kept my camera by my side, not wanting any sounds to alert them to our presence. The deer froze. Then, out of nowhere, the 'King' deer, in the centre of this group guided all of his herd across the path in front of us, where they then flew into the undergrowth. *I also have a print available that is of the still herd moments before they made their escape into the camouflage of the forest.
