About The Artwork

Photograph taken in the rural area of Chile, sector of the old frontier of the Mapuche country. Railway Station of San Rosendo / Ralco Alto Bío Bío Edition 2 of 20 The prints will be made on acid-free Cotton paper of 310 grams at 1440dpi resolution, in an Epson Stylus PRO 11880. Dichotomies of the Territory Heidegger attempted to "understand the structure of human existence as temporality ... Why not do the same with spatiality, which is also a radical structure of existence? Tetsuro Watsuji In this series of works I take the territory as the thematic axis, the space delimited by Man, essential for human existence; this geographically and politically delimited space, placed me in this always nomadic, always transhumant by this territory, by this spatiality containing landscapes, histories and routes; a unique, finite and fragile world. For this series the photographic medium and the digital collage becomes a field of experimentation, dividing and fragmenting the landscape both rural and urban showing its details, differences and similarities as spectator took this landscape, "the richest of signs" according to Roland Barthes ; my landscapes are the result of a nomadic journey, a migrant family with a thousand periods and stories, descended from Germans, Swiss, French, Arab and Spanish a great mixture with no clear roots always in transfer, the works exposed are significant places, they go from the Desert of Atacama and its contradiction with the city of Antofagasta urban population near him, the place where the greatest mining wealth is extracted in Chile and the most precarious place that I have visited, La Moneda and its indelible image of the Chilean coup d'état recorded on fire in memory, that day we were going to that place with my mother; San Rosendo train station that connected with southern Chile a thousand times pass through that place since a girl, now abandoned, a space full of history, main witness of the battles between Mapuche and Spanish. Border. The train was the beginning of the pacification of the Araucanía, Altos del Bío-Bío and the mountain range of the Andes refuge of the Mapuches (Pehuenches) that managed to escape Spanish rule; La Laja place of entry of the Spaniards to the south of Chile surrounded by rivers, rural sector, with histories of forts and old Jesuit settlements, the Huaquí River or Guaque, this river gave name to a Jesuit Estancia and was the border marked the division with the mapuche country and it is the place of return my fixed place where I have spent more time; Los Vilos the day after the photographic record was the Tsunami of Coquimbo is its last record of places that are no longer, Each landscape is a container of a great history. "The landscape is not something that is in the territory ... but it is in the eyes of those who contemplate"  Juan Maderuelo
