About The Artwork

The child; the child’s child; and the child of the child’s child. They are, and have been, the survival of Judaism. The son learns from his father and the grandson listens and looks, and will pass on his teaching to his children - this is how it has been from generation to generation. This image is from a photo-essay about orthodox Jewish communities in America funded in part by Steven Spielberg's Righteous Persons Foundation. The photo-essay was inspired by Mark Twain's 1899 article in Harper's Bazar entitled the Jew and the work of Roman Vishniac in A Vanished World.
