Compositing image in memory of the victims. A statement against forgetting. During the night of Sept. 28 1994 the ferryboat MS / Estonia sank during the cross over from Tallinn to Stockholm. The catastrophe in the Baltic See cost 852 lives. The victims came from Sweden, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Morocco, Holland, France, England, Canada, Belarus, Ukraine and Nigeria. Their names and their fate we shall never forget. I took photographs of the Estonia monument in Stockholm. The names of all victims are there engraved in stone. Names of single persons, names of couples, names of fathers and sons, of mothers and daughters, names of whole families. The very thought of it is painful. I combined a photograph of the epigraphs, a photograph of the Baltic See (the silent grave of the victims) and a photograph of a sculpture (which seems to call for us). I am a decidedly self-taught photographer and shoot semi-professionally. I prefer essentially figurative and realistic forms of expression in my pictorial works. I like to work on the basis of inspirations from everyday life, from the feedback on my works, from literature and also from the works of other art genres.
