About The Artwork

I made an association between a music and a photographic image that has been inspired by the  particular piece of music: Compositor - Joonas Kokkonen Symphony No. 1 (written in 1960) Performed by Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Sakari Oramo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK0ePzW1huo Joonas Kokkonen was one of the most internationally famous Finnish composers of the 20th century.  He served in the Finnish army during World War II.  He was mainly self-taught in composition. Joonas Kokkonen made an  impact on Finnish cultural life, heading organizations such as Society of Finnish Composers or Board of the Concert Centre.  I was inspired by the music of Finnish composers and I captured the landscape (ISO 100, f/10, 200s, sRGB, Canon EOS 550D). Most of the time was a cloudy day and lots of rain with some snow too. The landscape was captured between late morning and noon. It just finished raining in Garnes (Norway) When I listen to  Symphony No. 1 by Joonas Kokkonen I can feel the melancholy of rainy day at the fiords or in the forest, and I imagine the dark, heavy clouds. Music is building up the tension similar to the tension between clouds and sunlight visible on the image. Music has emotional impact similar to mood on the photography. The cold colors palette work together with the Symphony.

Her achievements are a testament to her dedication and skill. She was honored by the Jewish Historical Institute in the photo competition "Historic Sites of Ghetto in Częstochowa" in Poland, 2016. This accolade is a reflection of her ability to capture poignant historical narratives through her lens. At the Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre in NSW, Australia, Karolina's work received the 2nd Prize in the "Taking Flight" photo competition in 2015. This event celebrated the pioneering work of Lawrence Hargrave in aviation, and Karolina's highly commended entry was later exhibited at the: Articles Gallery in Stanwell Park, NSW, further amplifying her recognition in the field. Her exhibition at the Engine Room Gallery, Waiheke Island, New Zealand, in 2012 showcased her proficiency in alternative photography techniques like palladium, tintype, cyanotype, pinhole camera, Van Dyke brown, and light boxes. This exhibition was not only a display of her technical skills but also her creative versatility, as noted in several publications in local newspapers. Karolina's participation in the Junction Arts Festival in August 2011 in Launceston, Tasmania, showcased her innovative blend of photography and digital art. Her work, projected on buildings during the festival, provided a mesmerizing experience to the audience. Her exhibitions "Utopalypse" at Yes.Oui.Si. Space in Boston, MA (2010); “AWAY” at the Gallery at Massachusetts College of Art (2010); and "Photography Atelier Exhibit" at Lesley University Hall (2010), all in the USA, have further solidified her reputation as an artist who seamlessly merges photography with computer-generated imagery. Additionally, her exhibition "POET/MILITAR" at Gallery Rotunda in Poznań, Poland, in 2008, showcased her ability to use computer graphics to create compelling photographic collages, further demonstrating her versatility and creative prowess.
