About The Artwork

This is a photography from the serie Solovki: In the far north of Russia, on the shores of the White Sea, far from everything floats Solovki Islands. Islands of contrast, the archipelag is endowed with extreme beauty, a severe climate and a busy history. The animals here are protected, hunting is completely forbidden, they come to meet humans without fear. Yet Solovki - the prototype of GULAG (Glavnoe Oupravlenie Laguerei, the general direction of the camps, created in 1920) and a symbol of the Great Terror, Stalinist repressions and absolute human cruelty. We can still see the traces in the architecture of the buildings, on the graves, in the forests. A story that disappears, invaded by nature, banned by the Orthodox Church, which has become again the symbol of Holy Russia, the land of martyrs.
