About The Artwork

My works INFINITE ARCHITECTURE in particular pays reference to the great photography artworks by Andreas Gursky. By digitally collaging mostly only one single high resolution precision photography I develop - depending on the motive and the applied overlay technique - an infinite three-dimensional architectural object à la M.C. Escher's metamorphoric works, or an optical illusion in perspective and cityscape inversion reminding Christopher Nolan's mindset creating Inception or Tenet or cinematic color moods like Dennis Villeneuve's future world in Blade Runner 2049. The results, compiled to the series INFINITE ARCHITECTURE, are stunning artworks of unique visual impact, imaginations of space ships or megalopolis islands floating between ocean and sky on a virtual planet.

Christoph Kuegler is a German photography artist and lighting designer. In the last two decades he distributed his life and work equally between his two ‘hometowns’ Munich and Guangzhou. The main focus of his photography works is on international megacites and can be examined at christoph-kuegler.com. Visting Brasilia in year 2000 and exploring that unique metropolis designed by architect Oskar Niemayer and city planner Lúcio Costa from scratch was an overwhelming experience for him. This essential impression triggered his future photography works on such contemporary large scale centers of habitation. In 2009 Christoph started to document the development of the new CBDs (central business district) Zhujiang New Town (North of Pearl River) and Pazhou (South of Pearl River) in Guangzhou which - like Brasilia 60 years before - were created from scratch. For both areas, the Crème-de-la-Crème of national and international architects were invited to contribute their architectural designs in order to create a modern, unique cityscape and new city center in Guangzhou. Today, after 15 years photography works on that topic, extended communication with the Chinese local authorities and all participating city planning and architect firms, scientific reseach on the history of Guangzhou and its development culminated into a two-volume 700+ pages book named Metropolis Guangzhou - the South China Megacity through the eye of a local foreigner that shall be released in 2024 in English and Chinese language. The content of that intensive work on the cityscape and architecture was the basis for the extension of Christoph’s works from photography to photography art. Selecting certain architectural images, he is collating them digitally to overlays with the intention to illustrate the emotion of density and the continuous transformation of the cityscape. The results, compiled to the series INFINITE ARCHITECTURE, are stunning artworks of unique visual impact, imaginations of space ships or megalopolis islands floating between ocean and sky on a virtual planet. In 2023 Christoph exhibited his works INFINITE ARCHITECTURE at the World Art Dubai (WAD) and two of his works were selected to participate at the UNICEF art auction Art Be a Part in Dubai.
