About The Artwork

This pinhole photograph has been taken at Villa Kerylos.Villa Kerylos in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France is a Greek-style property built in the early 1900s by French archaeologist Theodore Reinach. Madame Fanny Reinach was a cousin of Maurice Ephrussi, who was married to Béatrice de Rothschild. Inspired by the beauty of the Reinach's Villa Kerylos and the area they built the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild at nearby Cap Ferrat. A Greek word, "Kerylos" means Halcyon or kingfisher which in Greek mythology was considered a bird of good omen. The title of this work is from the poem 'Geneva Posting', written by Brigitte. When purchasing this work you will get the poem that comes with it for free.

Iconic, eye-catching yet serene, high-quality artworks. Works of Brigitte Spiegeler are in various international private and company collections. Participated in the Venice Biennial 2017. ‘Brigitte Spiegeler’s work is about an imaginary time, which exists only in our minds: a timeless, internal time. Like a memory: vague, with reappearing details (the memory is engraved in the present moment, but in the same time immensely distant and imperceptible (memories belongs to the past). The blue colour gives a different relation with the time: it is a modern time, with abstract forms, superimposed on a fixed past, a complement to what already existed.’ (Quote by Philip Peters in the publication ‘Byzantine Blue’)
