One of series of 48 Photographs. Whilst trapped in a police kettle on the 7th September 2013 I took portraits of every police officer on the frontline of the kettle in which we were detained. The incident resulted in the largest mass arrest in the last two years. None of the 286 arrestees have been charged with any offence. The portraits are intended to be displayed in a small, cramped space encircling the viewer. The effect is to create an intimidating ring of uniformed law enforcement officers. On closer inspection, however, each individual portrait has it's own story distinct from the unified mass. The high resolution images show a wide range of individuals with varied expressions and attitudes: from bored to kind, embarrassed to cruel.

The way we communicate with and experience images in the media is central to my practice. What is obscured, what is ignored and what we are encouraged to see by those who have media power shapes the society we live in and changes how we interact with the world that we inhabit.
