KUTHO series. Variation Portraits. Title : Girl of a nun school.
The series talks about religion associated with power and the relationship between the visible/not visible, cult/occult, and the parallel universes.
KUTHO takes inspiration from a Burmese notion of Merit where Buddhist devotees paste gold leaf to their relics to gain merits towards a better reincarnation.
Layers of centuries covering what lies beneath until losing shape. Active history for an everyday ritual.
I'm interested in how an offering affirms the idea of a next life and empowers us by being used as a tool for that purpose. I use the same leaves as a stamp in my memory of the light reflecting those men who can touch the sacred.
A grace that we women are forbidden to access.
