The CITYscapes series is divided into four cities, namely Paris, New York City, London, and Berlin. The main focus lies in architectural perception and remembrance, and the function which photographs play in the constitution of memory. The architectonic objects are photographed and later digitally edited. I started to disfigure the taken images by blurring their shapes horizontally and vertically according to the architectural underlying structure until only a diffuse and abstract image appeared, one closer to the images one has in memory than coded into millions of bits and bytes of detailed information. In a second process of controlled remembering the photographs were reworked by exposing parts of them back again, turning them into focus, like the fragments of a building as bits of information. As a result, the dimension of time manifests itself, letting the line of sight follow varying rhythms, from the fast directional blur to the static observation of details.
