A 35mm color negative film photograph, captured in London in 2022, is part of a triptych series. As an artist photographer, I continually seek novel approaches to the medium, employing the analogue camera as a canvas to craft my compositions. I am captivated by the transformative power of light, as evidenced in this specific work where the subject, a tree, transcends objective representation, evolving into a dynamic interplay of light, movement, and time. Nature, a perennial theme across various art forms, serves as a focal point in my exploration, delving into the profound allure it holds. These images, taken on a brisk summer day characterized by gusty winds, aspire to recreate the trees outside my residence, encapsulating both static moments and subtle movements. Drawing inspiration from musical compositions, particularly ambient and minimal genres, this work pays homage to the compositional techniques of Steve Reich, embracing repetitive figures, slow harmonic rhythm, and canons. An inherent fascination with analogue photography lies in its propensity for unexpected outcomes and errors, elements seamlessly integrated into my artistic inquiry. The allure of finding beauty in discarded elements is a central theme, wherein the chemicals involved in analogue photography assume a crucial role. Deliberately utilising initial frames to explore potential mistakes, the interplay of light burning the frame adds a layer of serendipity to the visual narrative.
