Lockdown 1 - Limited edition 1 of 10 Photograph

I have always been uncomfortably fascinated by places of no hope. This is partly as experienced in my other role working with patients suffering serious mental health challenges as a psychotherapist. Lockdown restricted my access to places I could use in my imagery. However in disposing of some hedge cuttings from my garden I was struck by how expressive of both hope and hopelessness they were. They had gained the form they had by repeatedly growing and being cut back in cycles of and disappointment. For me the interesting thing when working with people who seem to have lost all hope is that by joining with them in that view of life (rather than encouraging them into something better) it seems to facilitate their own journey back again. So if these images echo or reflect back some negative space for you, by not hiding from it here you will also find your way back. Hence these images offer no simple or easy way out.
