Maître d' - 2012 Photograph - Limited Edition of 12

On a trip to Rome I was at the Caffé Greco and shot a few photos of the waiters and rooms. This shot includes one of my favourite subjects, a reflection in a mirror. I've thought that for the artist there is always a choice in how to best express an idea. This choice occurs when the decision is made to render the artwork in the chosen medium. For me an artwork can be a drawing, a painting, a photograph. It is what gets you to expressing your idea. The decision to use a photograph instead of making a painting is a decision made from necessity. My photographs are about colour, form and texture. They are abstract in the sense that they are first about colour, form and texture and not about representing a realistic subject. They are more like painting then they are like a photograph.
