She was taken by an old Muslim chieftain as part of his harem - thus the attire, which is untypical for the rather more freely clad Nuer Tribe. After long negotiations the Chieftain demanded a considerable amount of USD, so that I could bring her into a clay hut and spend some undisturbed quality time with her alone. After two hours hard work we reemerged into the Saharan sunlight, and were awaited by ecstatically cheering villagers, while the old Chieftain embraced me as if I was a newly found son-in-law. I don't think anyone ever understood that I actually only took her photo... and did she tell?
