About The Artwork

The photographs in this collection are part of my PhD visual research. I explore the nature of light and matter, specifically investigating ideas of wave/particle duality. I am inspired by physicists Louis de Broglie and David Bohm who posed that, at the quantum level, matter exists as both particles and waves. In Meeting the Universe Halfway: quantum physics and the entanglement of matter and meaning theorist, Karen Barad, lists qualities of reflection and diffraction to differentiate classical and quantum physics. Both branches are at odds with each other and Bohm sought to reconcile both viewpoints. I use materials that reflect and diffract to bridge the opposing positions. Both reflection and diffraction inhabit the same artwork. Waves and particles are a recurring motif and are reference in this series.
