About The Artwork

"What geometries underlie the built and natural environments? What traces of the past do they include?" are the fundamental questions driving my artistic practice. To achieve this, I captured an abstract photo of the Oculus in New York City and delved into the landmark's diverse cultural, human, and landscape layers. My focus was on the site's remnants of the past. I documented the human side of the building by highlighting its multiple functions as a transportation hub, a memorial, a place for contemplation, and a selfie spot. Inspired by the Bauhaus movement, the driving force behind modern architecture and design, my artistic style involves creating digital collages that combine geometrical forms and photographic elements such as texture, light, and shadow. During this process, I discovered a musicality in the geometrical shapes, which gave the images autonomy beyond any object of reference. Moreover, my photographs become part of the compositions rather than the central element. As a result, the images' abstraction developed its energy and direction, creating visuals that built their inner need and intensity without being limited by the external reality. My artwork showcases the power of abstract photography and the importance of exploring the underlying geometry of the environment. This piece is printed on archival pigment paper and is offered in a limited edition of five (5).

I am a New Yorker from Queens. When I started drawing in my teenage years, my father taught me to look at the architecture of Bucharest, Romania, with a keen eye for perspective, balance, and proportions. Analytic perception has accompanied me ever since. Arriving in New York City, my photographic interest turned to the city's signature architecture. I systematically explored specific themes, such as the effects of light or the perception of waves. I have exhibited my artwork in group shows at the Huntington Arts Council in New York (2020), LIK Gallery in Vienna (2021), and online at the Visual Artists Association in London (2023). My latest work, "New York City Bauhaus," explores trans-artistic movements in the US. One piece was included in a juried exhibition at The CENTER for Contemporary Art in Bedminster, NJ (early 2024), and another was displayed at the Atlantic Gallery in NYC in March 2024.
