Therefore they have an ambivalence of meanings that make them useful objects for an artistic commentary on today's world. They are an object of "Americana" as the checkered flag by Jasper Johns, comic characters like Superman or Andy Warhol`s Campbell soups. We live in a similar era of false symbols that arouse feelings to manipulate our consciousness. Barbies are still thrilling girls, their accessories introduced the "American way of life" as a dream world wrapped in an order and perfection, which stifled girls’ freedom of expression. Romy Querol breaks that image and frees Barbies, educating them in freedom. The plastic is cold, asexual, like Barbies and symbols that are being imposed. But Art can transform any object and give it a new meaning. Even a Barbie can be hot, with the power to shape the forms, with the author's subjective spirit, which is the definition for Romy Querol`s Art. "I look for denial of the common meaning of the objects. I use the transforming power of warm colors, suggestive positions to seduce with a seemingly cold object. Color is the key to that transformation. God, says Nietzsche, is a painter in four dimensions that creates life. Painting or photography reduce these four dimensions of space-time to two dimensions, where only the shape and color have to transmit the whole. But the shape is already given by the doll, therefore the colors are the essential element of change that I use in my photographs." I like the work of Murakami, Saint Phalle, Daan Roosegaarde. Among the classics of Pop Art I would mention Rauschemberg, Richard Hamilton, Hockney and the iconoclasm of Johns.
