Marcelo Rabuñal was born on Montevideo, Uruguay on 1980, he lived his childhood between Lima and Punta del Este. On the year 2000 he starts his career in Audiovisual Communication at Montevideo’s ORT University. During his studies he works on several short-films as director and cinematographer, that later were selected and awarded on international festivals at Spain, France, Argentina and Uruguay. On 2005 he is selected from six-hundred Latin-American film directors to participate in the Talent campus on Buenos Aires, held by the Berlinale. He obtains his degree on 2006, year on which is selected to join the ORT16 program, sponsored by Kodak Film Institute, where he makes some studies on photography direction in cinematography format and works on a 16mm short-film, which is awarded at Punta del Este’s 11th International film festival. Later he works on the cinematography of the film “Todavía el amor”, Selected in the festivals IDFA (Amsterdam 2012), Hot Docs (Toronto, 2013), DocsBarcelona (Barcelona, 2013) and FICG (Guadalajara, 2013) and on the documentary TV series "Pebeta de mi Barrio" and "A Escena con los Maestros” On March 2013 he wins the production funds from the Instituto del Cine del Uruguay to make his debut as director in the documentary film "Detrás del mito", later selected at MiradasDOC, FilMAR (Best editing) and Guadalajara’s Doculab. On the same year in November he is awarded with the first place in the Uruguay’s Wiki Loves Monuments contest. On 2014 he gets the first place in the international short-film contest “Corto Corto” Organized by EFTI (Madrid), he works on the cinematography of the film “Mirando al cielo” and directs a series of short-documentaries about politic reality for TNU channel.
