I grew up in a household surrounded by my fathers architectural practice drawings. These led me at an early age to privilege the elevation as an objective, rather than subjective perspective based point of view. One that I have used in my photography to say, please look at this and come up with your own point of view. From the series ‘SKIN’ this close-up elevation is a record of the external surface of a military aircraft. Its violent encounters with the environment are etched into its surface. In this case this ranges from extreme heat from the vertical lift off thrusters to the ice cold wind chill at 55,000 feet and 1,000km/hr wind rush. These brutal conditions counterpoint the violent reason for this crafts existence. I have a day job - I am a psychotherapist. I work with people as they negotiate their relationship with that thing that is outside of them - their world. In these images of aircraft I want us to get close to both their form or identity, and etched into their surface their record of that same thing - their relationship with their environment, their outside. This is currently an open edition. At a later stage I may be releasing some super high resolution versions in limited editions.
