Graceful ribbons of sky-high concrete connect to two spans crossing The Carquinez Straits, a mile-wide waterway that connects The Sacramento and San Joaquin Rivers to San Francisco Bay, The structure bisects and dwarfs the charming little town of Crockett, California. Of note: A major U.S. tire company had negotiated to buy the rights to use this image in a billboard campaign. It was 2008. The housing and financial collapse that year wrecked the economy and the offer was unceremoniously withdrawn. It was a generous offer. I'm not sure which hurt more - the loss of funds - or the bragging rights of pointing up to all of those billboards!
