The glowing Art Deco marquee of Radio City Music Hall pops against the black night, the bright red letters instantly drawing the eye. A bustling crowd traverses the sidewalk in front, the fairytale theater emerging magical and otherworldly above them. Crisscrossed by passing traffic, the iconic Manhattan landmark appears to float ominously alone in the dark void of the frame. Faceless passerbys hurry past, oblivious to the cinematic sight rising over their heads. The viewer's focus runs along the sleek neon of the iconic name before resting on the bright white letters starkly declaring “SOLD OUT.” There is a cryptic theatricality in the presentation, emphasizing isolation and unavailability. It exists as a beautiful specter - there but not there, a mirage in the night beckoning to passersby, its temporary inhabitants hidden within. A celebration of old, classical architecture and modern entertainment, but also the subsequent alienation of those without a ticket.
