Cyanotype is photography and painting at the same time. Spitze consists of three image levels 1. is the damask fabric (old bed linen with woven patterns) 2. The photographic layer which is treated in such a way that an optical fold is created even though the fabric is stretched smoothly. 3. The motif - various underwear that is placed directly on the fabric as a photogram and exposed. Since the motif can be seen on all visible sides of the frame, the image becomes an object. about "Spitze" The other day I had a visit from Gesine Völlm in my studio. When I showed her one of the first cyanotypes with lingerie motifs, she spontaneously said „Spitze“. Spitze has two meanings in the German language. First, it refers to the material lace. But it can also mean great or super. As a costume designer internationally known in the opera world, she unfortunately meant the material. I, on the other hand, quite like the ambiguity of the German language...
