About The Artwork

The photograph of this carousel was shot in Tel Aviv, Israel, and represents in my eyes, the childhood most of us miss so dearly; a fantasy world filled with horses accompanying us in exciting adventures, colorful cars driving us to unknown horizons and an endless sea engulfing us in a new universe. I like to play with the narrow limit between photography and drawing to emphasize the thin line between childhood and adulthood, land and sea, nostalgia and melancholia. The picture is printed on 100% cotton Fine Art Paper, as paper is the material on which children usually draw and express their most cherished and personal feelings and moments. I invite you to take a close look at the scene because there are so many little details which will suddenly appear in front of you and awaken forgotten emotions, as to your childhood souvenirs.

Noëmie Rubinsztejn was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and currently lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. She discovered a passion for photography while staying in Paris where she started photographing hotel lobbies. Shortly afterward, she launched her blog on hotel lobbies 'Lobby and Tea'. She always felt she had a different perception of her surroundings as she is stereoblind. Stereoblindness is the inability to see in 3D, resulting in the incapacity to perceive stereoscopic depth by combining and comparing images from two eyes. Noëmie decided to use her condition to focus on places, elements, and details that add to the beauty of urban landscapes and interiors but lead a barely noticed existence. It was, according to her, time to include these components into her fantasy world and animate things that would otherwise not receive a voice. Stains, chewing gums, cracks, folds, open doors, holes, graffiti, plants, and leaves are never removed from her photographs. They represent the authenticity of her work, enable visitors to enter the story of the photo… and be carried away into the scene.
