About The Artwork

The early stages of life have always fascinated me especially in the case of identical twins. I have been conducting my visual experiments of Eva and Mia Fahler in several creative mediums including video and photography in order to further my understanding of instinctual human behavior. Embryo is a series of photographs that depicts the ladies in their natural state at an embryonic level. The images are candid even though the photographic situation was set up and controlled. The ladies were dunked in an in door swimming facility and asked to act naturally with one another as they felt they had in there mothers womb. Embryo is an understanding of what happens at a deeper level, the beginning, birth. Dispelled in water the ladies naturally reenact innate infant behavior. They are using basic instincts to survive as they have at birth. The images of the series are fluid and dance between reality and surrealism. The mood and feeling of the images are cold, warm, melancholy, violent and nostalgic.
