Telamon | Out of Rhyme collection | Shipwreck of the "Telamon" cargoship, Lanzarote, Spain (2015) "Out Of Rhyme" is a limited-edition collection of photographic seascapes printed on brushed aluminum, I shot between 2015 and 2017 during my trips abroad. Before starting the nomadic life that eventually brought me to northern Europe and Berlin, I was raised in Cagliari, the coastal capital of Sardinia - Italian island renowned for its pristine beaches and warm, Mediterranean climate. With a daily average of 16°C, 7 hours of sunshine and an 8km-long, sandy beach just a bus stop away from my home, the beach played a major role in my life as a kid. Most of my memories from those times are in one way or the other connected to the sea: the terribly slow hours to digest the lavish picnics before being allowed to take another swim, playing football with friends on the shore, the sailing, the first crushes. Being connected with such a huge chunk of my childhood memories, it should come as no surprise that, after moving away from the coast over 3 decades ago, the sea keeps having such a deep, polarizing impact on myself and my photography. I shot this photo while touring Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, two of the biggest islands of the Canary Archipelago, in 2015. I noticed the shipwreck of the "Telamon" while driving along the east coast of Lanzarote, between Arrecife and Costa Teguise. I just had to stop. I took around 30 photos of it from different angles. The Greek cargo ship Telamón arrived in Lanzarote on 31st October 1981. It had declared a fire on board of its cargo which consisted of timber logs and was not allowed to enter the port of Arrecife to stopover. It was coming from the port of Guinea and was heading for the city of Thessaloniki through the strait between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote when the fire broke out and the hull flooded. The Los Mármoles port in Arrecife, due to its small size, could not afford an accident of that magnitude so the Telamon was maneuvered a few hundred meters to the area of Las Caletas, where it was grounded. The captain and the crew managed to reach shore safely but the ship was left there, just a few meters from the shore. And there it remained for years. In 2016, the Lanzarote government decided to dismantle it. For bureaucratic reasons, the process hasn't started yet and the Telamon still awaits to set sail for its last journey. TECHNICAL DETAILS This photo - just like all my other works on Saatchiart - is printed on brushed aluminum by Whitewall - the German, award-winning photo lab renowned for its superior, gallery-quality, printing process. The horizontally brushed, metallic surface adds a characteristic flair to my images making them look timeless: old-fashioned and modern at the same time. Depending on the light and the viewing angle, the aluminum surface shimmers differently, therefore constantly altering the prints’ appearance in unpredictable ways. This is the reason why I print all of my artistic works on brushed aluminum. Prints on aluminum are thin (0.3cm), sturdy and incredibly light. Being pre-treated with UV light protects them from light damage, dust particles and moisture. As a matter of fact, not only are aluminum prints rust-proof, they are also - differently from most other print materials - suitable for bathrooms and sheltered outdoor areas. My prints -unless otherwise stated- are always fitted, as from the photos, with Whitewall's aluminum rail rectangle (depth 1.5cm) and are therefore ready to hang, vertically or horizontally. The 1.5cm distance from the wall makes up for an eye-catching 'float' effect that beautifully emphasises the print. Every single limited-edition print is numbered and hand-signed by myself.

Alessandro Corsini is a visual artist working with video and photography, based in Berlin, Germany. Born in Milan (Italy) in the seventies, having grown up on the pristine beaches of Sardinia, he had his first encounter with B&W film photography during a course at his intermediate school in Maryland, USA. The interest for media has since guided his multifaceted formation, leading him not only to study and work with different media, but actually exploring them through artistic, scientific, and applied arts lenses. His eclectic body of work is a reflection of his free spirit, cosmopolitan upbringing, and interdisciplinary background. His photographic research focuses on fine-art, conceptual works that deconstruct/decontextualize traditional photographic genres and techniques, in the pursuit of a new, purely artistic, definition of photographic iconicity.
