About The Artwork

‘Tell the king’ is a visual representation of a fable’s scaremongering, yet this fiction is also coupled with fact in the physics of the work. The helium is escaping, it is the movement from the earth to the cosmos. The title comes from the Chicken Little fictional story of the mission he sets himself to declare the end of the world to the king. This action is happening today as we predict our own demise, yet the reality of the situation seems to get lost somehow. The artwork expresses this mid-point, this in-between state where the balloons are suspended in mid-air; the time in which we’re in presently, caught between the past and the future, but with the world slowly decaying. It is the age which we’re announcing our own extinction, just as chicken little did, yet his fate was determined in a different way and thus the truth never arrives. Or has it. The inbetween transcends the concept, but encapsulates the physical items. The packing container is a foreign body, piercing the sky it attempts to join the spaces from the ground to the cospos. A telescope that allows insight into another realm. The transparacy of light is conducted by the balloons, forever weighted as they approach the viewers space, from becoming something unattainable to something within reach. Helium is a gas that never wants to stay still, it always wants to escape. This escapism reflects the overall concept of the work; a natural phenomenon that we are able to witness, yet in the parameters of . An equlibium between life and death, animate and inanimate, lightness and weight.
