About The Artwork

From the collection China 1988 The Great Wall of China close to Badaling 1988. Year of the Dragon. An early morning image taken just after sunrise. I arrived at the wall in complete darkness with a journalist from California, and after scrambling up to the top we sat in the gloom and waited for the dawn to arrive. And what an arrival!! to see the Great Wall snaking over the mountainous landscape into the distance was a scene I shall never forget. This image is one of several taken on that day. The original image was photographed in 1988 during The Year of the Dragon using a Leica M4-P which is an acclaimed rangefinder camera, a pro specification film camera loaded with positive slide film. The slide was laterly scanned on a high quality digital scanner, cropped to give a dramatic landscape feel then converted to a digital file and manipulated to give a real etheral aged apperance to the work. Using a wet plate technique to emulate the old large style pioneering cameras of a bygone era. The work will also be printed on aluminium (aluminum) metal with a satin finish. The nature of metal printed work means that sometimes it carries slight imperfections which I believe will work in harmony with this aged styled piece. The image is a limited edition authentic work produced to the established fine art standard. A beautiful piece will be achieved with a high definition, Satin Alumini finished metal print, creating a stylish eye-catching metal artwork. The work comes complete with wall mountings to make for easy hanging. The artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity which will be signed and numbered with the edition size. Limited Edition of 9 that will not be exceeded in the stated size.

As a multi disciplined international award winning photographer who strives for continual perfection and that perfection is just out of reach, elusive. Each image I believe can always be improved; can be changed; can have a deeper meaning hidden beneath the surface and it’s my intention to draw the viewer into that image. I draw inspiration from past generations of artists. I particularly like the darkness and tension within Caravaggio’s works, the technicality of Leonardo da Vinci and the abstraction of Vincent Van Gogh. Some of these ideas are easier to transfer into our medium due to the digitalised age. As a photographer we are currently in times where we can express ourselves through our work by changing and advancing our styles. Now forward thinking stock libraries like Arcangel are a portal to creativity where the only limits we have are our own imaginations. I often use Fibonnaci’s divine ratio, consciously or subconsciously, within my work. This theory runs as a constant throughout the universe being seen in nature, patterns and shapes. I have a real affinity for travel and I have been fortunate to visit over 70 countries. I have been able to interact with different people and cultures through these experiences. This travelling has helped me develop a style of observational photography, sometimes by watching an event unfold and second guess the subject. It has helped me with my curiosities about the world and seems to draw me in further by looking at the complexities and interactions surrounding life. It has opened up my senses by allowing me to see great cities to small villages; visiting ancient monuments; to viewing a solar eclipse; to feeling the force of nature through the sea and feel the power of hurricanes. I have been widely published in travel and tourism guides, books, magazines and billboards
